Description

The Emotional Wellbeing in Schools Networking Conference 2019 is being delivered by Buckinghamshire County Council’s Public Health Team in partnership with local partners who are members of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Group. This conference provides a platform for school staff and those who provide services to schools to network, share and update knowledge on national and evidence based programmes and on local practice with a main focus on promoting emotional wellbeing for children and young people.

The main focus for this year’s (2019) conference will be on strengthening the whole school approach to mental health. The theme for the conference will be ‘Progressing and Strengthening the Whole School Approach to Promoting Mental Health in Schools’.

The aims of the conference are to:

Raise awareness/Support: schools to implement and employ strategies to build on whole school approaches to promoting mental health;

Provide: an opportunity for professionals to engage and share best practice for taking forward and implementing the proposals for strengthening the whole school approach;

Enhance: attendees' knowledge and skills by providing practical advice and resources to enable schools to progress whole school approaches to promoting mental health.

There will be a keynote session providing an update from DfE on current plans from an education perspective to support children and young people’s mental wellbeing in schools and colleges from prevention to identification, early support in schools and referral to external specialist support. Workshops will follow in the morning and afternoon that will focus on the practical aspects of equipping attendees with the knowledge and skills to progress and strengthen the whole school approach to promoting mental health in schools.

Strategies for Supporting Schools to Promote Mental Health (delivered by Jennifer Taylor and Simon Faulkner, Time to Change)
(This workshop is a morning workshop only)

Evaluating a Whole School Approach to Mental Health and Wellbeing (delivered by Carol Stottor and Anita Hazel, Public Health)

Supporting Schools with Self-harm and Self-injurious Behaviour (delivered by Amanda Wilson, CAMHS)

Peer Support to Promote Mental Health in Schools (delivered by Kat Frei, Bucks Mind)

If you choose this workshop as your Workshop Session 1 please make sure you choose this workshop again for your Workshop Session 2). Workshops will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
